Here is a list of items that would greatly help us take care of Darius during his recovery. If you would like to contribute in a way other than a monetary donation, these items would be very much appreciated:
We are launching this fundraising campaign because we are going through a difficult time and facing heartbreaking choices. Our precious Darius, an adorable 8-year-old cat who is an integral part of our family, is sick. At twenty-something pounds, he's a big ball of love whose talent is bringing smiles to those lucky enough to cuddle him.
For several days, he had been painfully straining to poop, but nothing was coming out :(. Those who know Darius are aware of his love for kibbles. So it was with obvious surprise that we found his bowls full...
After a costly hospitalization and surgery, Darius was able to return home, and we learned that he suffered from a condition that makes his (mega-)colon sluggish and blocked, preventing him from passing his stools and causing him much suffering. He was prescribed a plan involving two lifelong medications, implementing a special diet (which, fortunately, was already the one he was following), as well as stimulation of his lower abdominal muscles. We were also happy to be reassured that, now unblocked, he would be like "a brand new cat".
Unfortunately, during the procedure, the discovery of an astronomical amount of poop in his little belly prevented the care team from completely emptying the small piles hiding inside him. As a result, despite significant relief of his symptoms in the days following the operation, Darius started getting blocked up again, requiring another enema, so we took him back to the vet.
We have learned that more enemas will very likely be necessary over the coming weeks. We are facing a situation where the costs for his treatments and interventions are high, and we need your help to provide him with the care he needs to regain his health and happiness.
Hi there,
It's me, my name is Darius, I am a loving, playful cat full of cuddles. Recently, I have had a lot of pain in my belly because my poop is stuck in my mega colon... I am a champion and I take my medication every morning and every evening even though I don't like it because Mom and Dad say it will help me go. I continue to persevere and try to go to the toilet, yet even when I try my hardest, nothing comes out. It hurts my tummy so much that sometimes it is sensitive when I get petted :(
